Manufactured remarkableness

Passed on by Bert Vaux on Facebook, this remarkable book cover:

  (#1)

Here we see, apparently, Elmo cheerfully offering his ass to Grover, who’s unbuckling his overalls in preparation for fucking him. With a title suggesting that this is Elmo’s First Time.

The image comes from a website offering “Top Ten Horrible Book Covers”. Well, there are actually 34 besides #1, and those 34 appear to be genuine. But #1 is not.

The image in #1 starts with Grover from a genuine Sesame Street toddler book:

  (#2)

The source for Elmo I haven’t found, but in #1 he seems to be peering down at something (not glancing back at a sexual partner, as things would probably go in real life). And then the creator of #1 added a suggestive title, though the image would be entertaining even without a title.

Now to the other Horrible Book Covers. Many of the examples are books on bizarre subjects, like How to Avoid Huge Ships; the titles are merely descriptive. Some are books on serious subjects, but with titles that are perhaps unwisely chosen, for instance, Bombproof Your Horse (with the subtitle Teach Your Horse to Be Confident, Obedient, and Safe, No Matter What You Encounter). Some books are deliberately jokey:

  (#3)

From the publisher’s description:

Hilarious, humorous book that will leave every cat-lover rolling with laughter. Includes Naming Your Pussy, How to Feed Your Pussy, Sleeping with Your Pussy, Disciplining Your Pussy, How to Handle A Hot Pussy and lots more. Very entertaining but it helps to have a somewhat perverted sense of humor.

Some titles have an unfortunate unintended pun in them:

  (#4)

Maybe Pooh’s Kitchen would have been better, but the Pooh – poo homophony is hard to get around.

Finally, there are book covers whose potential humor comes from the image. Here’s the first shirtless hunk for the day:

  (#5)

Some viewers find this cover funny: how could Tarzan get groomed like that in the jungle? Me, I’m inclined to think that for some aspects of certain genres, readers and viewers just have to suspend disbelief.
